Children around the district have been celebrating World Book Day. These pictures are of some of the fun from across Uttlesford.

Storyteller Janina Vigurs visited Katherine Semar Schools, Saffron Walden, for World Book Day, had an interactive story-telling session with each class and helped to open the new school library.
Parents and businesses raised over £3,000 towards new books for the library through the 'Buy a book' appeal.
Librarians Jake and Julia gave Janina a tour of the library showing her the outside reading area, explaining how the books are catalogued and how children can find other books to enjoy.
The children showed off the area where they can play chess or relax with a good book. Curriculum Ambassadors told Janina about their favourite books in the library.

Emilia Eastwood, age three, dressed as Red Riding Hood as her favourite book is Red Riding Hood and the Sweet Little Wolf by Rachel Mortimer.
Her mum took the picture before she went to Bright Horizons Nursery, Saffron Walden.
Debden C of E Primary Academy

At Debden Primary School, children's learning has been based around stories, characters and the wonder a book can bring.
They have shared stories with friends and listened to their teacher’s favourite childhood story books.
Friends of Debden School, the group of parents and family members who organise fun events for the children and fundraise, organised a book swap to share, reuse and recycle much loved stories.

Patron of Reading, author Rosemary Hayes, came to visit the older children.
She shared her experiences about life as an author and told the children all about her new book called Break Out.
This follows the adventures of a girl called Flora who, following a global plague, finds herself in a world where her parents have disappeared and no phones or computers are allowed.
The children loved hearing about her inspiration for the book and then enjoyed a writing workshop, where they got to imagine their own ideas based on an extract from the story.
Acting Deputy Head, Emma Dymond said she is sure the visit has inspired a future generation of writers!
The Christian School, Takeley
At The Christian School in Takeley, staff and students had fun during World Book Day and got dressed up to celebrate.

Radwinter Primary School, Saffron Walden
Children and staff at Radwinter CofE Primary School enjoyed dressing up as their favourite character for this year's Book Week in school.
Children enjoyed a fun-packed week of exciting activities including Mystery Readers, DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), a Story in a Jar competition and a range of online workshops with authors and illustrators.
The theme of the week was My Favourite Book and Mrs Bartram and Mrs Fuller hosted a whole-school community assembly with a costume parade on Friday.

R A Butler Academy, Saffron Walden
The children and staff at R A Butler Academy fully embraced World Book Day with a playground parade that gave everyone the opportunity to admire the creative costumes.
The Reading Ambassadors ran a World Book Day Assembly for the whole school, leading a book quiz and scavenger hunt.

Dunmow St Mary's Primary School
Dunmow St Mary's went hat crazy for World Book Day. Hats represented their favourite book character or a book itself.

As the 2022 World Book Day theme was ‘reading for pleasure’, during English sessions the students were asked to think about ways to celebrate the fact that they are readers and to produce artwork and writing about this. These will be shared with parents and families soon.
Classes also read books that represent the realities of children’s lives today.
A school representative said: "It’s such a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading for the whole year rather than just a day of activities!"

Bell Day Nursery, Saffron Walden
Bell Day Nursery and Preschool had lots of fun celebrating 25 years of World Book Day.
Staff and children had a week of dressing up as their favourite book characters.
They welcomed parents back into the nursery and preschool and celebrated by sharing stories and songs together.

Helena Romanes School, Great Dunmow
Students and staff at Helena Romanes School joined together to celebrate World Book Day.
They entered a competition for the best decorated World Book Day door.
In the secondary school, The Learning Zone used JK Rowling’s books as their inspiration as it is 25 years since the publication of the first Harry Potter book.

Other doors included the Worst Witch, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Secret Garden, Ready Player One and Alice in Wonderland.

The Primary phase had an interactive door for the Gingerbread Man with real gingerbread.
Harry Potter themed caked were on sale in the dining hall.

The children of HRS Primary had their first World Book Day, and characters included everything from traditional tales like The Three Little Pigs to more contemporary classics, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Harry Potter.

They've also been on a trip to Dunmow Library, where the primary children were given a tour of the facilities and allowed to borrow a favourite book of their choosing.
