Skiers from Felsted School scooped up 15 prizes at the Independent Schools Ski Championships in Italy.

The championships took place before Christmas at the Sestriere resort, a world-famous venue for the Winter Olympics and Alpine Ski World Cup.

Felsted's participants competed against skiers from eight other UK independent schools in the parallel slalom, slalom and giant slalom events, winning prizes in both the individual and team awards.

Pupils Zach, 11, and Seraphina, 12, both gave standout performances - winning in their age categories in all events.

In the team slalom events, the two participating Felsted teams drew each other in the first round.

Felsted Team 2 went on to reach the quarter finals of the shield competition, while Felsted Team 1 narrowly missed out on winning the championship cup in the final against a team of older competitors.

Rob Holt, the teacher in charge of skiing activities at Felsted, said: "This championship is a great opportunity for Felsted skiers to show their skills on the slopes and meet pupils from other schools who share a passion for this great winter sport.

"The level of competition this year was very impressive and to come away with so many placings was a real achievement."

The Independent Schools Ski Championships were held from December 15 to 21, and concluded with a gala prize-giving ceremony.

Miranda Norris, head of Felsted Prep, commented: "Our young Felstedians showed real camaraderie and teamwork at the ski championships.

"They worked so hard and achieved so many awards - they should feel very proud of themselves. Well done to all involved."

Felsted's ski team participates in various competitions during the winter, and 16-year-old pupil Charlie Cooper is part of the Team GB squad at the Winter Youth Olympic Games 2024.
