People living in Uttlesford are invited to have their say on a new design code for the district.

Since last summer, Uttlesford District Council has been working with the community to create the design code - a new document which will set the standard when it comes to the design quality of future developments.

The practical and useable guide is aimed at residents, planning officers and developers who are involved in the design and planning of new developments.

It sets out rules and guidelines that will ensure all proposals are designed and built to the high quality expected.

As part of the process in shaping the code, the council has hosted a number of community engagement events, including guide tours, online meetings, surveys and pop-up stalls at markets and community hubs.

The draft document is now ready, and people will have the opportunity to comment on the plans from this Friday, July 28.

Cllr John Evans, portfolio holder for planning at Uttlesford District Council, said: "We want to make sure any new development is of a high quality and contributes to what makes the district such as an attractive and distinctive place to live.

"We’ve listened to what our communities are telling us about Uttlesford’s uniqueness and what they think would be appropriate in future development.

The closing date for comments is September 22.

All the responses received will be considered, and the design code will be updated where appropriate.

Once adopted, the final document will be taken into account by the council when describing the outcome of any planning application.
