PLANS are well under way for one of the biggest events in Uttlesford’s community calendar.

The annual Hadstock summer fete attracts over 1,000 people and raises thousands of pounds for the maintenance of St Botolph’s parish church and the Victorian village hall.

This year it will take place on Saturday June 15, starting at 1.30pm – and organisers have plans to make it the best one yet.

As usual there will be swingboats, helter skelter and other old fashioned fairground attractions, stalls and games. There is also a tombola, produce stalls and much more.

A special auction and raffle will take place from 3.30pm, with prizes including a trip to Huntingdon races and golf vouchers.

The fete takes up a huge area of the village, with teas and cakes in the village hall and then spreading out to the village green, churchyard and even several private gardens. Hadstock Silver Band will entertain the crowds through the afternoon and the classic car show – always a big hit – will include steam engines and motor bikes on show.

To end the day in style the village then gathers at The Kings Head pub for a 70s and 80s Disco to celebrate all the hard work. The party starts at 8pm and continues until midnight.

David Taylor, a member of the fete committee and landlord of the Kings Head, said: “This is always a really good fun day when everyone from the community gets together.

“Everyone does their bit to help, from businesses to residents, and we all have a good celebration throughout the day.

“It really is a wonderful day out for all the family and is a real ‘must not miss’ for the diaries.”

Last year the fete made a profit of £5,500, despite torrential rain taking over much of the day.

Bartlow Road will be closed off to traffic on the day.
