Stowmarket U-14 5 Saffron Walden 43WALDEN'S winning run continued with another convincing victory, this time against Stowmarket who were able to field a physically large side. Much of the play revolved around the forwards who battled for the ball throughout the game and resisted all the Stowmarket attacks. The backs were never under too much pressure though occasionally their handling looked a little rusty. There were two tries each for Mark Kimberley and Tom Parkin who always gain valuable ground whenever they have the ball. Mark Kimberley's second try was set up by some superb individual skill from flanker Sam Phipps. Robert Holmes, one of Walden's props, had an outstanding game helping to dominant the game's forward play and was justifiably awarded the man of the match. James Downes the scrum half made two determined drives from scrums close to the Stowmarket line, the first being disallowed, but the second being awarded, his first try of the season. However, the try of the match went to David Butcher breaking through six tackles to score directly under the posts. Richard Gough's kicking was again sound and true, scoring four conversions, two of which were from difficult angles.
