Blue Hornets Felsted Youth Hockey Club start their new season this Sunday (September 6) looking to build on their development on and off the field.

After significant success last season, numbers are up and the club expects to have over 200 children attend training every Sunday morning at Felsted School.

In addition, new midweek programmes will be run for primary and secondary schools in the Dunmow and Braintree district.

Chairman, Charlie Fillingham said: “Five of our teams were county champions last season, with our U14 boys and U12 girls making it through to the Nationals Finals becoming one of the top five teams in the country.”

In order to meet growing demand, Hornets’ coaches will be running coaching programmes after school at Helena Romanes (Dunmow) on Mondays and at Phoenix Hockey Club (Braintree) on Tuesdays.

Specific programmes will be run for primary school and secondary school level.

Players will have the opportunity to then progress on to adult hockey with Phoenix Hockey Club.

“We are now one of the largest youth sections in East Anglia, and want to continue to develop the programme for children of all standards,” added Fillingham.

While Blue Hornets have had players that make the England squads, the clear strategy is to provide hockey for all standards.
