Youth football: Dunmow Rhodes knock Broomfield for six
PUBLISHED: 08:59 18 May 2013
DUNMOW Rhodes produced an outstanding performance, hitting their closest rivals for six on their way to lifting the cup.
Rhodes were in control from the start and led 3-0 at half time. Freddie Cook and Liam Johnson both hit two goals, while Stanley Hooker and Charlie Wardle were also on the scoresheet.
The team only started playing competitively this season. And it might get better still with a title victory on the cards. Rhodes, who have lost only once this season, are second in the top tier of the Blackwater & Dengie League – they trail Broomfield, who have played all their games, by three points but have two games still to play.
Fred Cook, who coaches the team alongside John Hooker, said: “The boys have done amazingly this year – they’ve come on leaps and bounds and it has been a fantastic season.”
Speaking about the final, played at the home of Burnham Ramblers, Cook added: “We’ve played Broomfield twice this season, losing 3-2 at home and winning 2-1 away, so the games have been tight. To beat them 6-0 is a real feather in the boys’ caps.”
