A Felsted School pupil has followed in the footsteps of England cricket stars by picking up a huge accolade.
Ben Waring has won the much sought-after title of Schools Cricketer of the Year for 2015, a list compiled by the renowned experts at Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.
Waring was afforded this honour after a fantastic year in which he took 68 wickets at 9.23 runs apiece with his left-arm spin from 1-7 overs bowled throughout the season.
In doing so he follows the likes of Jonathan Bairstow, James Taylor and Jos Butler all of whom went on to play for their country.
Bairstow himself was featured again in this year’s almanack, being named as one of five cricketers of the year.
He was named alongside New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson, Australia’s Steve Smith and Bairstow’s England team-mate Ben Stokes. Williamson was named Cricketer of the Year.
Waring was a first year cricket scholar at the school last year, and at the same time he was also turning out for Saffron Walden CC 1sts in the East Anglia Premier League.

Among his achievements was that his 69 wickets broke a record previously held by Old Felstedian and England Test and One Day International cricketer Derek Pringle.
It earned him Cricket World’s Performance of the Week in July last year.
His efforts have also seen him turn out for Essex U17s and he has also played several times for the Hertfordshire senior team in the Minor Counties competition.
