Saffron Walden under 10s put on a good show to defeat Epping Foresters at the weekend.

Walden batted first and their best partnership came from Danny Murphy-More and Bertie Hughes. Foresters bowled and fielded very well and Walden struggled for runs, setting a target of 219.

Luke Barkes put in an excellent opening bowling performance (3-3-0-1) to put the batsmen under pressure, ably assisted by Alex Hancock (2-1-2-0). Foresters were left needing nine runs off the last four overs, but excellent bowling by Jay Ghelani (2-1-1-1) and captain Will Clarke (3-0-7-1) gave Walden the victory.

The under 10s made it two wins in two days against Harlow Town.

Coby Game got Walden off to a good start with a couple of sweetly struck fours, but Harlow pegged Walden back with two quick wickets. The highlight of the innings was a 40-run partnership between Jonathan Brace and Jed Butler with Jonathan top-scoring with 30 runs.

Captain Will Aitken, scored a very useful 15 at the end of the innings to give Harlow a challenging target of 281 to win.

Charlie Duke opened the bowling and took two wickets in his opening over and a further two wickets in his second and third overs to end up with match-winning figures of 3-1-9-4. James Patterson also bowled very tidily, ending up with figures 2-2-0-1 as Harlow were defeated.

Saffron Walden under 11s got their first win of the season in the Essex league with a fine all-round performance.

Batting first, they scored 99-2 with Joshua Charge and Paddy Brown top-scoring, ably supported by Ally Hancock and Nick Cox.

Stansted were kept under pressure with tight bowling, the pick of the attack being George Irwin who took three wickets for two runs.

Ed Low steered his under-11 team to their second home game victory in a row against Sawston.

Walden set the visitors a difficult target by putting on 289 runs with the loss of only four wickets.

When Walden bowled, Harry Stark took three wickets supported by Hamish Ritchie and Daniel Procter who took two wickets each. Reece Thear then came on and took two wickets in a maiden over. Ed Low and Domenic Wilson also took a wicket apiece and Walden were worthy winners by 97 runs.

The Academy's all-conquering under 13 team defeated local rivals Dunmow in the West Essex Cup Semi-Final.

In a reduced over match, Walden bowled first and accurate bowling kept the runs down with wickets falling steadily. In their 18 overs, Dunmow managed only 97-5, with J Down top scorer with 18 and, for Walden, Jack Hawkins and Jai Goodwin returning the best bowling figures.

Walden's reply began confidently and Peter Herd scored freely before retiring on 27. Jack Hawkins hit three successive boundaries off a county bowler to finish the game with only three wickets down.

Saffron Walden under 15s defeated Harlow Town on Sunday.

Rob Gill opened and scored 20 before being run out by Adam Maxwell. The only other scorer of note was Fraser Hill with 13.

The Walden bowlers then went in to action, taking wickets at a steady rate. All contributed with Fraser Hill taking three wickets and Dan Mitchell two.

Both Linton under 11s and under 13s had convincing wins this week.

The under 11s had an excellent result in their match against Babraham. Despite some early run outs, a more positive batting performance from Linton all round resulted in an impressive total of 276.

Guy Flynn led the final flourish with the top score of 15 but all the batsmen ensured Babraham had a tough target to beat.

Linton never allowed the Babraham innings to get going, thanks to good early bowling by Oliver North 4-15. However all the bowlers contributed with Thomas Wren bowling consecutive maidens. Strong fielding backed up the bowlers' performance and helped restrict the Babraham total to 197-7.

Linton under 13s triumphed in their local derby against Abington.

Linton batted and posted their best score to date of 130. Early runs from James Macer (17) were followed by some big hitting by Alex Flynn (36) and Ben Foster (20 not out).

Abington pushed Linton all through their batting and Andy McDonald gave a faultless display of straight batting in scoring 47 not out. However some tight bowling from Linton slowed the run rate.

Three wickets for Ryan Auger and a much better fielding performance from Linton restricted Abington's reply to 110-7.
