ONE of the biggest races in the Dunmow area received a huge turn out on bank holiday Monday as almost 1,250 runners took part.

Amongst the competitors at the Hatfield Broad Oak 10k were members from the Grange Farm and Dunmow Runners who were racing in the first round of their club championship.

Although the race was won by Springfield Strider Paul Molyneux (32min 3s) the GFDR athletes were not far behind around the figure of eight loop passing through the village.

Even with a cooling breeze, the runners found the going hot. And disruption was caused when deer crossing the road charged into the runners at the 1km mark.

For GFDR, Kevin Marshall came 42nd in 37min 40s, followed by Alistair Brown in 39min 2s and Dan Reynolds in 39min 21s.

Nick Laughton finished in 39min 33s followed by David Andrews (40min 39s), David Spencer (40min 57s), Craig Hooke (41min 38s), Geoff Maidment (43min 39s), Stuart Warwick (44min 38s), Ian Lawson (44min 59s), Simon Burpitt (45min 32s), John Hardy (46min 15s), Rob Gall (46min 23s), John Smith (46min 56s), Gillian Robertson (47min 19s), Hayley Smith (47min 28s), Simon King (49min 2s), Geoff Smith (49min 3s), Natalie Herbert (49min 14s), Gavin Foster (50min 24s), Charlotte King (53min 18s), Lesley Burpitt (54min 29s), John Sandlin (54min 31s), Sharon White (56min 53s), Joe Dilworth (56min 53s), Richard Percy (58min 3s), Sandra Smith (58min 57s), Sue Harrington (60min 58s), Sarah McLagan (61min 35s) and David Bottomley (63min 15s).
