IT WAS a second victory of the season for Darren Thomas as he and a host of Dunmow Triathletes athletes took part in the Notley Duathlon.

Thomas was first in the 40-45 age group at the Discovery Park last weekend and was one of six Dunmow competitors who took part in the race organised by Braintree Triathlon Club – Born2Tri.

He completed the 5km run, 23 km bike ride and 5 km run in an impressive 1hr and 5mins finishing 5th overall but winning his age category.

Next Dunmow athlete to finish was Keith Taylor in 1hr 16mins followed by Rob Newman, Phil Elms and new members Abigail Stratford and Darren Amott.

Two other Dunmow triathletes competed in other parts of the UK. Wendy O’Brien completed the New Forest Olympic distance triathlon – a 1500m open water swim, 40km bike leg and 10km road run – in a very creditable 2hrs and 59mins.

Finally Phil Curran competed in the Pembrokeshire Triathlon based in Haverfordwest in West Wales in cool and blustery conditions finishing this sprint distance event (400m swim, 18km bike ride and 3.1 km run) in 57mins 42 seconds for 27th place overall.
