Swimmers raise �3,000 for cancer charity
SWIMMERS at Great Dunmow Leisure Centre made a massive splash for charity
SWIMMERS at Great Dunmow Leisure Centre made a massive splash for charity as they completed the Swimathon 2011 challenge and helped raise �2,994 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
Dunmow was one of over 580 pools which took part nationwide in the Swimathon this year.
In total, 53 swimmers took part in the town, of all ages, shapes and abilities and all were able to make every length count.
Organiser Angela Old, business manager at Great Dunmow Leisure Centre for Leisure Connection, said: “We’re thrilled to have been able to help Marie Curie Cancer Care again this year.
“The Marie Curie Swimathon was such an important event for the local community and it was touching to see how many swimmers arrived, if not to swim, but to show their support for such a worthy cause.”
Start training now for your Swimathon 2012 challenge, swimmers can complete up to 5km as an individual or as a team with their friends and family.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK’s largest charities. Employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, it expects to provide care to around 29,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in its hospices this year and is the largest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS.
