St Albans Ladies IV 0 Saffron Walden II 3

Saffron Walden seconds showed why they are title contenders with a superb display of flowing hockey against joint leaders St Albans.

The young squad were up to the challenge and debutant Maria Lamb along with Clair Pearce and Lindsay Willson had superb games in defence.

Sophie Thomas and Kate O'Sullivan caused havoc down both wings and Walden eventually took the lead with a well taken goal by Tilly Sleven.

Walden looked to have doubled their lead before half-time with a well struck short corner from Kate O'Sullivan, but it was ruled high by the second umpire.

After the break St Albans pushed forward looking for an equaliser, but Walden keeper Fiona Holmes made a couple of important stops to keep her side in the game.

As the half wore on, the youthful legs of Walden gained advantage over the experience of St Albans and two goals from Sophie Fry after excellent approach work from Clair Atack sealed a well deserved victory.

Saffron Walden Ladies III 0 St Ives II 5

Saffron Walden thirds put in a battling performance against St Ives but had nothing to show for their efforts in this cup clash.

St Ives powered into a 4-0 lead in the first half, although Walden keeper Nicky Bailey made several fine saves.

With shots at goal from short corners missing the target by an inch, Walden kept putting St Ives defence under pressure.

Tash Cox, Eve Turnbull, Donna Anderson and Julie Pearce kept the Walden defence tight to hold St Ives to only scoring one goal in the second half.
