Saffron Walden U-9 13 Cambridge Celts 2

Saffron Walden continued their recent high scoring antics with a comprehensive victory over Cambridge Celts at the weekend.

Walden started the quickest and took an early lead when Jasper Alport collected a Jack Gosden pass to score in the bottom corner.

This opened the floodgates with Andrew MacCorkindale scoring a hat-trick within five minutes and William Palmer netting twice, the second from the half-way line, to lead 6-0 at the end of the first period.

Cambridge came out in the second period and defended resolutely and pulled a goal back, but the third period saw Ben James get rewarded for some excellent play with two goals and Alport scoring another after some excellent link up play between Callum Sparrow and Atta Azamede.

In the final period, Walden passed the ball superbly with the left footed Chris Holder scoring with his right foot and following it up with two more goals to complete a four minute hat-trick.

Jack Ormsby was also on the end of a great move to slot the ball neatly past the diving goalkeeper. Cambridge had time to score one more consolation goal, but Walden ran out worthy winners

Saffron Walden U-11 2 Cherry Hinton Lions 2

A superb match between these two well matched teams generated excitement and tension, with honours eventually ending even.

Although the early exchanges were generally cautious, both sides escaped goal mouth scrambles.

The Lions took advantage of a long goal kick that confused the Walden defence to take the lead and they soon doubled their advantage.

Walden didn't give up and Daniel Murphy-Moore struck after 33 minutes sparking Walden into a dominant second half display.

Alex Hancock was so close to meeting a cross from Will Clark and the visiting keeper produced a point blank save to deny Clark.

Liam Coles battled down the left wing and squeezed his shot into the far corner of the net to equalise. Coles was so close to a third for Walden when his shot hit the bar.

Hinton continued to threaten on the break and got a penalty, but this time the bar saved Walden.

Cottenham U-16 7 Saffron Walden Town 1

Despite scoring first, Walden were knocked out of the cup by C League Cottenham at the weekend.

The young Bloods started positively with Josh Leopold finding the net with his head from a Tom Foxley free-kick after just six minutes.

However, it took just seven minutes for the home side to pull level and they took the lead before half-time.

Just two minutes after the restart Cottenham scored again. Despite some good positive play from the Walden midfield and attack, Cottenham found their measure and managed to roam the field at will, slotting in four more goals before the final whistle ended the agony for the boys from Walden.

Saffron Walden U-10 B 5 West Wratting B1

Saffron Walden came from behind to see off West Wratting in the extreme cold.

West Wratting took the lead after Walden had all pushed up, but constant pressure forced the equaliser before half-time.

With a change of formation Walden took the lead in the second half when Dylan Reams scored from a Jordan Smith corner.

Harry Benton and Jack Thompson locked up shop at the back allowing George Templeman and Reams to score.

Constant pressure from Charlie Mosley and Smith increasingly frustrated the opposition before Templeman finished the scoring with his second.

Dunmow Rhodes U-10 Tigers 6 Valley Green Eagles 1

Dunmow Rhodes Tigers won this Blackwater League encounter comfortably at the Dunmow Recreation Ground on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers came out of the traps flat out in this midday encounter, with centre midfielder Fidge scoring the first from a Crook corner after only four minutes.

The pressure intensified on the Eagles, and a poorly directed defensive kick by the visitors saw Dunmow gifted their second in the 10th minute.

Sutton opened his account in the 17th minute, after latching onto a pinpoint pass from Watson, before beating the final Valley defender and finding the top left corner of the net for the Tigers third.

Two minutes later Sutton was in action again when Baxter drew the defence and then passed through the gap to the pacy midfielder who secured his second in the 20th minute.

Goalkeeper Butlers first move of the match resulted in an outstanding save to deny Valley their one opportunity on the stroke of half-time.

Rhodes started the second half the same as they had started the first, and it was not long before Dicker and Fidge combined to provide Sutton with his hat-trick chance, and the winger needed no second invitation.

A good break from centre half Broom, allowed him to work his way past three Eagles midfielders, before a neat pass to Fidge, provided the midfielder with his brace for the day, and Dunmow's sixth.

Valley were not to be outdone however, and despite good physical presence from Wilson, a last minute dash from the visitors found their striker away, and a brilliant

finish, just clearing Butlers out-stretched fingers denied the home side a clean sheet.

Dunmow Rhodes U-9 Lions 5 Gallow United 0

Rhodes came away with a comfortable victory against visitors Gallow United.

Wise opened the scoring in only the second minute with a powerful left foot drive which the keeper failed to hold.

In the 15th minute good work down the flank saw Gallop cross to Carey to slot home Dunmow's second. Beavis did well just before half-time, his run and cross was met by a well executed shot from Carey for his brace.

In the 35th minute Wise hit another spectacular goal finishing in the top corner for his second and Dunmow's fourth. Five minutes later, a good ball by Thompson found Turner who deservedly got on the score sheet with a well taken shot.

In the last few minutes Gallow did have a break and looked certain to score but Jacobs pulled of an excellent save at his near post.

Dunmow Rhodes Tigers U-8 3 Sporting 77 Lions 0

An impressive performance from Dunmow Rhodes saw them come out eventual winners with a hard fought success against a physical Sporting 77 team.

With the scores level at the interval after an entertaining first half, an impressive period of passing after the break led to the opening goal, with Wise finding the back of the net from a tight angle.

In the 30th minute Rhodes deservedly got their second when a stunning solo Braithwaite run from deep in his own half, beat both the midfield and advancing defence before calmly slotting home past the Sporting keeper for the goal of the game.

Frost added a third after a well worked team move to ensure Dunmow maintain second position and are only two points off the top of the league.

Feering Falcons 3 Dunmow Rhodes Tigers U-7 3

Dunmow can count themselves unlucky not to come away with the victory against an unbeaten Feering side, as the home side equalised deep into added on time.

Falcons opened the scoring in the seventh minute, a powerful run and shot gave goalkeeper Barrington in goal no chance.

Rhodes deservedly drew level on 13 minutes, a ball from midfield split the defence for Bowen to drive home and four minutes later, Kitchen broke free and found Bowen who drilled into the bottom corner for a 2-1 lead that they took into the break.

On 35 minutes Feering drew level, but a minute later Bowen turned his marker and slotted home for his hat-trick and what looked like the winner.

Unfortunately with the last kick of the game a well taken goal gave Falcons a share of the spoils.

Dunmow Rhodes U-12 2 Torquespeed 0

Dunmow both entertained and totally dominated in this encounter against Torquespeed.

First half goals from Callum Parradine and Louis Turner sealed the victory.

Outstanding efforts from Stuart Stanley and Dan Watt kept control of the midfield and created opportunities for Dan Clelland who was unlucky not to score.

Spartak 78 U-14 1 Chatteris Town Youth 1

Spartak extended their unbeaten run to four games with a hard-fought draw at home to Chatteris.

The Saffron Walden team took an early lead through Sam Mitchell who volleyed home from Calum Shaw's free-kick.

Chatteris then struck back to level the score before half-time.

In the second half Spartak dominated the game, but could not make their chances count.

Spartak 78 U-9 2 Sawston 1

Spartak defeated Sawston at the weekend at Herberts Farm.

Spartak started strongly and George Silvester came close with a good headed effort from a corner. Spartak's first goal came from a skillful strike from Aiden Byrne after some very good build up play with precision passing. Sawston created some good chances but Fin Karsten, George Crawte, Tommy Cox and keeper Alex Perry in the Spartak defence were solid.

The second session was much the same and an equaliser for Sawston was well taken by Liam Moir.

The third period found Spartak pressuring in the first part and their efforts were rewarded with a good goal from a hard working Harvey Hubbard.

Sawston put the pressure on in the last few minutes, but Spartak defended their lead well and the game ended as competitively as it had started.

Spartak U-15 3 Haverhill Rovers 0

Spartak continued their run of good form against higher placed opposition after this 3-0 victory against second placed Haverhill.

Haverhill started much the stronger side and they could have been 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes with a shot rebounding off the post and a fine diving save from Henry Wells.

Jack Baker opened the scoring for Spartak after a flick on by Ollie Webber and then doubled their lead shortly before half-time.

Playing against the wind in the second half Spartak had to battle for for every ball.

Ollie Webber was thwarted by an excellent double save from the Haverhill keeper, but Jack Baker went on the complete his hat-trick with a goal 15 minutes from time.

Royston Town Colts U-14 0 Elsenham 1

Dean Clayden's early goal gave Elsenham a sixth straight win and moved the team above their hosts into second place in the league.

Royston created a couple of half-chances in the opening exchanges, but as they pushed forward Elsenham hit them with a classic counter attack.

The ball was laid out quickly to Mason Duckett on the left who sent in a superb cross that Dean Clayden headed powerfully against the post. Clayden reacted quickest to seize on the loose ball and power a shot into the net to put the visitors in front.

Royston immediately set about restoring parity and for a long period Elsenham found it difficult to get out of their own half, but with keeper Jon Booth and his defenders standing firm their chances were few and far between.

The pattern continued in the second half with both teams cancelling each other most of the time. Royston had a few speculative efforts that missed the target, however 10 minutes from the end a corner led to a shot that Mitchell Seaman did well to clear off the line.

The home team were unable to make further inroads and Elsenham played out the remaining minutes to seal the win.

Elsenham U-12 1 Stotfold Juniors 6

Elsenham's winning run came to an end against a well organised and determined Stotfold Juniors side at the weekend.

The opening spell was even with both sides testing each other out, however, it was Stotfold who opened the scoring on 10 minutes. Barely a minute had past and Stotfold were two up, after a mix up in defence.

Four minutes later a penalty was converted by the visitors after a clumsy challenge in the area.

Just before half time, the referee awarded a second penalty to Stotfold for a handball in the area and again the striker made no mistake with his spot kick.

Elsenham looked a different side in the second half and after only three minutes, Billy Abery scored a superb goal, collecting the ball on the edge of the box he dribbled past two defenders and bent the ball round the diving keeper.

As Elsenham pushed forward, Stotfold hit them on the break twice towards the end of the match to make the final score 6-1.

Langley Colts Trojans U-8 1 Elsenham 5

A Rhys Daltrey hat-trick and two goals from Alex Best gave Elsenham a fourth straight victory on Sunday after a superb display.

The game started off with both teams quite evenly matched, but eventually Best opened the scoring to give Elsenham the lead. Elsenham doubled their advantage when a good pass from Albert Greenhalgh gave Daltrey the opportunity to score the first of his three goals.

Best added a third to send Elsenham in at half-time three goals up.

Langley grabbed one back early in the second half, however the away team then stepped up their game and Daltrey scored twice more to complete his hat-trick and give Elsenham the victory.

Thaxted Rangers U-7 1 Valley Green 2

Thaxted suffered a narrow defeat at home to Valley Green at the weekend.

In what was initially a fairly even game, Valley Green scored two quick goals from breaks within the space of only a few minutes.

Thaxted upped the tempo in the second half and Oliver Thorpe pulled one back for the home side.

With Thaxted searching for an equaliser, Valley Green were able to push forward themselves, but some great defensive play by Thaxted's George Jossaume averted a couple of almost certain goals.

Notley Youth Kestrels U-9 2 Thaxted Rangers Yellows 1

Thaxted put in a battling performance at Notley Youth, but returned with nothing to show for their efforts.

Rangers were soon under pressure from the Notley front line and 10 minutes into the game Notley scored their opener and minutes later they scored a second.

From the re-start, the Yellows displayed their real spirit, this effort was rewarded five minutes into the second half.

The ball was pushed to Graydon Thorpe on the right wing and good interplay with Matt Pike allowed Thorpe to push the ball pass the Notley Keeper.

Rangers attacked constantly for the remainder of the game and came close to equalising on many occasions but just couldn't find the back of the net.

Torquespeed Hurricanes U-9 0 Thaxted Rangers Blues 3

This was a game of two halves with most of the action saved for the second period.

The game came to life just before half-time when Thaxted broke through, but with just the keeper to beat they were denied by the Hurricanes keeper.

After the break the visitors started to pile on the pressure and despite some excellent goalkeeping managed to put three into the back of the net, all from corners, one from Jack Morris and then two courtesy of Adam Braden.

Thaxted Rangers U-11 8 Hatfield Peveral 2

Thaxted eased into the next round of the League Cup with a comprehensive demolition of Hatfield Peveral Jets.

The home side had plenty of chances in the first half but had only two goals to show for their efforts while Hatfield had scored themselves.

Thaxted scored another three at the start of the second half to kill the game off.

Hatfield did convert a penalty but by now Thaxted were pushing forward almost constantly and scored three more.

Tom Burke scored four times for Thaxted, Tommy Mercer twice, and James Kelvin twice.

Tiptree Minors U-12 2 Thaxted Rangers 4

A hat-trick for Freddie Haines topped off what was a fine Thaxted performance in the Division 2 League Cup.

It was reasonably close at half-time, but Thaxted went in ahead after Haines took his first of the day.

In the second half Thaxted had all of the play and had plenty of chances. Jack Flood added his name to the score sheet before Haines scored two more to make it 4-0.

Tiptree came back into it at the end to pull back two goals, but it was Thaxted held firm to take the victory.

Huntingdon Rowdies U-13 2 Aztecs 2

Aztecs secured a battling draw away at Huntingdon at the weekend.

Aztecs began strongly and a great cross from Harvey Tournant was flicked up by Michael Orris in the area and Aaron Stock headed into the net.

Shortly afterwards, David Lowe sent in a decent cross and Stock calmly slotted the ball home.

When Huntingdon did occasionally make a break, strong defending from George Udall and Dan Pass effectively snuffed out any potential threat

In the second half the Rowdies relentlessly fired in long balls but Aztecs defended well.

A Huntingdon free-kick glanced the crossbar as they came ever closer to finding the net, and they duly did with only 10 minutes still to play.

Fired up, a soft Huntingdon equaliser came after Aztecs were unable to clear the ball.

The last few minutes became a battle against the wind, but Aztecs held on admirably to remain undefeated in the league.

Barnston Youth U-17 0 Little Thurrock Dynamos 1

Barnston slipped to a narrow defeat against Little Thurrock in a physical contest on Sunday.

Barnston were very unlucky not to take a lead after 20 minutes when a Shane Pyne lob hit the bar and crashed onto the goal line.

The visitors scored the only goal of the game after 30 minutes when a fine save from stand-in keeper Henry Saville rebounded to an unmarked Thurrock forward and was dispatched into the open goal.

Although Barnston became increasingly dominant as the second half progressed, they were unable to convert any of the chances they created.

In the closing seconds of additional time Barnston were awarded a penalty kick and the visitors were reduced to 10 men for dissent.

However, a fine save by the Thurrock keeper prevented Barnston obtaining any compensation for their hard work.

Dunmow United Lions U-8 4 Chelmsford Orient 1

Another fine performance by the Lions saw them defeat Chelmsford on Sunday.

An opening goal from Tom Bradbury after seven minutes was quickly followed by a great strike on the half volley from James Benbrook, giving the boys a 2-0 lead.

Two minutes later a mistake from the keeper put Chelmsford Orient back in the game but Lions goalkeeper Aaron Fitzgerald quickly made up for it with a cracking save just before half-time.

In the second half the Lions dominated play. Tom Bradbury scored another after a few minutes, making it 3-1.

The boys had countless other shots at goal, but Chelmsford's keeper did a great job of keeping them out.

Max Bailes however scored his first goal for the Lions, securing a great win for the team.

Spartak 78A 2 Sawston United Youth U-9 1

Liam Moir scored for Sawston United Youth, but it wasn't enough to get a result against Spartak 78.

Aden Burns and Harvey Hubbard scored to make the final score 2-1 to Spartak in this hard fought game.

Both teams showed great grit and determination on a freezing cold morning.

Witchford Colts U12 3 Sawston United Youth 8

Charlie Irvine struck a hat-trick to help Sawston United Youth to an emphatic victory over Witchford.

The other goals came from Jed Pearl, Jack Wainwright, Ryan Bass and a thunderous volley from Max Annetts.

Sawston have now won nine games with one draw.

Manuden Juniors U-11 5 Letchworth GCE Reds 0

Manuden put in a five-star performance to defeat Letchworth Reds at the weekend.

The hosts started strongly with Chris Clasper opening the scoring with the first of his brace of goals.

Manuden's leading scorer Callum Taylor was also on target twice and Captain Will Robson scored a scorcher form 25 yards out.

Man of the match was Tom Allcock.

Great Bardfield Muddogs U-10 2 Spartak 78 0

Following on from their cup win last weekend, Muddogs kept up their fine form when they entertained Spartak 78 on Saturday in a keenly fought middle of the table clash.

Dominating from the start shots came frequently at the Spartak goal with Muddogs using three attackers, the spearhead of Mercer, Gliddon and Fairhurst making regular forays in to their opposition's box.

The first goal came on 10 minutes, Fairhurst with a pass to Gliddon whose effort at goal was parried by the keeper only for Mercer to knock into the net.

At half-time the staggering count saw that Muddogs had had 12 efforts at goal.

During the second half the pressure remained the same, but their was more of a concerted effort by the opposition to equalise.

This was stifled by the good work of Major once again having a good game at the back ably supported by Clarke-holland and Cayley.

With the goal shot tally at seven for the second half, the second goal finally came when a pass from Mercer found Gliddon once again who saw his shot go under the keeper and into the net.

Spartak U-11 3 Linton Aztecs2

Spartak took the league points against Linton Aztecs at the weekend after a great late fightback.

The game started well for Spartak with a couple of good moves down the left wing from Jesper Walker, however, the Linton keeper made a couple of fine saves.

Linton took the lead when a striker managed to weave through the Spartak defence to score the first goal after 10 minutes.

Spartak were unable to mount a significant attack in reply during the first half.

In the second half Spartak were more determined and managed to get close to goal with some fine shots. The Linton defence were tested and there were a number of goalmouth scrambles but each time the Linton keeper managed to steer the ball away.

Twenty minutes into the second half, a Linton midfield player managed a tidy lob from just outside the Spartak box way line which caught keeper Michael Sharp by surprise at nestled into the back of the net.

With Linton 2-0 ahead and only 10 minutes left different tactics were required.

Spartak put three strikers up front and within five minutes Coby Game had scored two goals to level the game.

The third goal came when Jesper Walker found space to cross the ball to Connaugh Gaskin who neatly stepped around the goalie and gave Spartak the winning goal with three minutes to spare.

A last minutes attempt to equalise by Linton was denied by a fine save by Michael Sharp.

Walden Spirit U-13 7 Aztec 0

On a bitterly cold day Walden Spirit and Linton Aztecs met for

the second week running, with Spirit in seventh heaven by the full time whistle.

Spirit soon settled down to play some good flowing football and, after four minutes, a neat move saw Issy Davidson break through to score her first of the day.

Aztecs endeavoured to level the score but, on 10 minutes, a surging run down the left from Louise Savill finished with a thunderous shot which, despite the Aztec keeper getting a touch, squirmed over the line to extend their lead.

On 14 minutes Courtney Dye forged her way through midfield and scored and five minutes later, Issy got her second and Spirit's fourth.

The second half started at a slightly slower pace, but 12 minutes into the second half Issy Davidson added to her season total with two goals in quick succession.

Some excellent interchanges of play resulted in the seventh goal, as Hannah Burlinson scored her first of the season to round off the victory.

Cambridge City U-14 6 Walden Spirit 4

Walden Spirit were beaten narrowly by Cambridge City in a thrilling game on Sunday.

Walden Spirit, playing uphill in the first half, were by far the more dominant team and Hannah Parker's long range shot rolled in, after a goalkeeping error, to give the visiting side an early lead.

Cambridge immediately fought back and after a couple of attacks brought the scores level.

However Walden Spirit continued to control the game and further goals from Sam Tant and Olivia Kidman gave Spirit a very well-earned lead at half time.

Having changed their formation for the start of the second half, Cambridge were a much stronger side and four quick goals put Spirit on the back foot.

However, with everything still to play for, Spirit bounced back to create a number of chances and finally Laura Millichap scrambled the ball over the line after a mix up in defence, to bring the score back to 5-4.

In the last few minutes the match could have gone either way, but Cambridge managed to snatch another goal to seal the victory.

Loughton Youth U-17 1 Takeley Youth 3

Takeley showed tremendous determination to earn a superb away victory over league leaders Loughton and maintain their own challenge at the top of the table.

Tom Le Masurier gave Takeley an early lead and although Loughton equalised after 11 minutes, second half goals from top scorer Sam Coleman, and the battling Tom Hadfield gave the visitors a deserved three points.

Cambridge then came out in the second period and defended resolutely and scored once to make it 6-1, but the third period saw Ben James get reward for some excellent play with 2 goals and Alport scoring another after some excellent play link up play between Callum Sparrow and Atta Azamede. In the final period, Walden passed the ball superbly with the left footed Chris Holder scoring with his right foot and following it up with two more goals to complete a four minute hat-trick. Jack Ormsby was also on the end of a great move to slot the ball neatly past the diving goalkeeper. Cambridge had time to score one more consolation goal but Walden ran out worthy winners

Witchford Colts u-12 3 Sawston United Youth 8

Charlie Irvine struck a hat-trick and set a goal up to help Sawston United Youth U12's to an 8 - 3 victory over Witchford Colts. The other goals came from Jed Pearl, Jack Wainwright, Ryan Bass and a thunderous volley from Max Annetts. That now makes 9 wins and a draw and continues the great run that they are on.

Dunmow United Lions U-8 4 Chelmsford Orient 1

Another fine performance by the Lions today. An opening goal by Tom Bradbury at 7 minutes was quickly followed by a great strike on the half volley from James Benbrook, giving the boys a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later a mistake from the keeper put Chelmsford Orient back in the game. Lions goalkeeper Aaron Fitzgerald quickly made up for it with a cracking save just before half time. In the second half the Lions dominated play. Tom Bradbury scored another after a few minutes, making it 3-1. The boys had countless more shots at goal but Chelmsford's keeper did a great job of keeping them out. Max Bailes however scored his first goal for the Lions, securing a great win for the team.

Spartak U-14 78 1 Chatteris Town Youth 1

Spartak extended their unbeaten run to four games with a well fought draw at home to Chatteris. The Saffron Walden team took an early lead through Sam Mitchell who volleyed home from Calum Shaw’s free kick. Chatteris then struck back to level the score before half-time. In the second half Spartak dominated the game, but could not make their chances count. The 1-1 result leaves Spartak third in the table.

Spartak u-11 3 Linton 2

Spartak were at home to second in the league Linton Aztec's. The game started well with a couple of good moves down the left wing from Jesper Walker, however, the Linton keeper made a couple of fine saves to keep Linton out of trouble. A Linton striker managed to weave through the Spartak defence to score the first goal after 10 minutes. Spartak were unable to mount a significant attack in reply during the first half. In the second half Spartak were more determined and managed to get close to goal with some fine shots. The Linton defence were tested and there were a number of goalmouth scrambles but each time the Linton keeper managed to steer the ball away. Twenty minutes into the second half a Linton midfield player managed a tidy lob from just outside the spartak box way line which caught the Spartak goalie Michael Sharp by surprise.
