Saffron Striders were again out in force to support the local 10K run to raise funds for a music suite extension at Newport Free Grammar School.
His first ever top 10 finish was a remarkable result for the Striders' speedster Danny Collins, once again emphasising how important he will be when the 5K summer league starts next month.
Four Striders were competing in their third race in just 15 days. Liz Shields tackled the tough course in an impressive 69 minutes, John Howe came 47th in 64 minutes, Monica Krylander secured 41st position in 61min 28sec and Bjorn Krylander took 38th position with a time of 55min 07sec.
Anthony Davison's run gave him an impressive top 20 finish and Deb Frostick put in a tremendous performance to claim 21st position.
Showing a fantastic level of improvement, Laura Mangan completed the Newport course measuring 10.7K instead of the advertised 10K in 1hr
- A 300 mile round trip was necessary for Gavin Long as the Saffron Strider embarked on the White Peak Half Marathon.
The limestone hills and dales of the Peak District around Matlock saw him speed his way to a personal best time of 90min 31sec to clinch 33rd position.
Steve White continued his assault on the fells of Lancashire with two great performances in a week. Despite poor weather and a hilly course, Steve produced his fastest ever time for a five mile race at the tough Haig Hall Fell Race.
His second race was the Blackstone Edge Fell Race, which although only 3.5 miles long, demanded more than 1200ft of climbing. Another top 100 placing was secured as he crossed the line in 42min 36sec.
