Saffron Walden Hockey Club Ladies seconds slipped to a defeat against higher league Bishop's Stortford on Saturday in a pre-season friendly.

Bishop's Stortford dominated from the start and they eventually took the lead with a well-struck short corner and doubled the lead before the break.

After half time Walden increased their tempo, hassling the Stortford players into mistakes and their reward was a well-struck goal from Amy Huson following a short corner from Sophie Thomas.

Lorna Charge, Sophie Fry and Zoe Bull worked tirelessly in midfield looking for an equaliser while keeper Fiona Holmes made several important saves. However, Stortford rounded off the victory with a further goal in the last minute, which agonisingly went into the net despite a valiant attempt from Claire Pearce to clear off the line.
