Stansted bowed out of the League Cup after a defeat at home to Barking on Tuesday.

They were again made to pay for missed chances and individual mistakes and despite having one game remaining in Group D, they can no longer qualify for the next round.

"I'm disappointed as I thought it was another cup we could do well in," said manager Terry Spillane.

"It was the same old problem for us, we are having trouble putting the ball in the back of the net.

"If you don't take your chances at this level you will get punished and we did."

Stansted played the better football in the first half, but it was the visitors who took the lead after 25 minutes.

Midfielder Paul Seymour, deputising at centre half, stepped up to play offside but it didn't work out and Barking broke through and fired in the opener.

Immediately Stansted went on the attack and Sam McCarthy found himself one on one with the keeper, but his effort came back off the upright and minutes later, Greig Taylor shot weakly after making space for himself in the box.

The hosts had further chances in the second half, with Dean Morgan, Danny Dobson and Taylor all going close, but it was Barking who found the net.

A free-kick was whipped into the box and headed home past Matt Cope to kill off Stansted's challenge.

On Saturday Stansted host Beaumont Athletic in the Essex Senior League.

"It feels like ages since we last had a league game and we want to get the three points," said Spillane.

"They are a club on the same level as us and if we are going to do well this season we have to be beating sides like that."

The Airportmen then host Eton Manor on Tuesday in the League Cup.

- Stansted's match at Eton Manor in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy on Saturday was postponed by the home side.

The club who share Tilbury's ground informed the Airportmen on Thursday the game would have to be called off as the Dockers had a rearranged league game to be played at the venue on the same day, which takes priority.

- Midfielder Bradley Walsh has left Stansted and signed for Eton Manor.

"Things have not worked out for him at Stansted," said Spillane. "I'm disappointed to see any good player go, but we left on good terms.
