High Roding's championship hopes are still alive after an important victory at Springfield on Saturday in the Mid-Essex League Premier Division.

Springfield batted first on a difficult pitch and posted 206-7 off their 45 overs.

Ellis (53), Curtis (39), Dance (38) and Lightfoot (21), were the main contributors for the hosts.

Simon Sargent with 3-47, and Travis Hussain 2-37 were the pick of the Roding bowlers.

Matt Everett (47), Allan Fairlie Clarke (28) and Mel Hussain (70), saw Roding get close to the target.

However, they went into the last over needing eight runs for victory. Simon Sargent came up with the goods, scoring two boundaries to give Roding the victory with three balls to spare.

On Saturday Roding entertain local rivals Aythorpe Roding, 1.30pm start.

High Roding seconds lost out in a high scoring game against Molehill Green at the weekend.

Bating first, Roding made 254-4. Orban Holdgate (91 no), Ben Tadman (59) and Richard Linney (39 no), were the main run getters.

In reply, Molehill were always up with the run rate, scoring 100 off the first 20 overs, before finally reaching the target with the loss of four wickets.

Connolly top scored with 110, while Gray (40) and Wright (30), saw them home.
