HOLDERS Flitch Snooker A had to dig deep to keep their Cup flame alive after yet another dominoes dogfight with their biggest Ridley League rivals.
Terry Candler's CCFC A spot-wielders held a 4-2 lead after winning the first two rounds of games, but the holders hit back to pinch the verdict in this near-annual clash by taking the final round without reply.
Another last-round whitewash sent the Black Horse galloping into the last eight at the expense of the Bird in Hand, but the Swan had their quarter-final place tied up nice and early at the Retreat, the Bocking side's last-round win doing no more than cut the score
to 6-3.
Mill Green Cricketers were a pair short for their trip to Dunmow, so Flitch Snooker B's 4-2 advantage with one round left was effectively a winning lead. This match also ended 6-3 - but the top score of the night was CCFC B's 7-2 hammering of the Black Lion at High Roding.
- THE South Section's top two face the acid test in Tuesday's (NB: Oct 23) Darts Cup first-round ties. Leaders CCFC B certainly look the team to beat in their own division, but a trip to the Retreat will really examine their credentials. Challengers Black Bull at least have home advantage, but need to make every dart count if they are to dispose of the Cock, last season's runners-up.
