Dunmow CC seconds came out on top in a thrilling clash with High Beach on Saturday in the Herts & Essex League Division Two.

High Beach won the toss and elected to bat, which looked like a fine decision as openers Brooks (43) and Glasgow (59) put on 118 for the first wicket in just 20 overs.

Dunmow fought back as Gypps and Gilbert quickly removed the top order to reduce the visitors to 148-4.

In the end it was only a quick fire 27 from Sumner that pushed the High Beach total over 200.

Dunmow's star performer was Gypps who recorded figures of 6-30 as High Beach were all out for 208.

The Dunmow reply got off to an aggressive start, however by the end of the fourth over they had lost openers G Sneath (21) and S Burrell with the score at 25.

Gypps (51), then helped steady the ship with the support of first J Down and then Illiffe. However, wickets began to fall at an alarming rate.

Quick runs from both Bush and Anu helped keep the required rate at about 10 an over, however when they both went with 60 still needed off the last six overs all looked lost.

However Hamlin played the innings of his career, smashing the bowling to all parts of the ground.

Dunmow were nine wickets down and still needed 14 off the last over, but J Sneath twice returned the strike to Hamlin with singles.

With one ball left Dunmow needed three to win, with Hamlin launching the ball into Riverside for a mighty six giving Dunmow the victory.
