Despite a three week lay off, Saffron Crocus Reserves FC continued where they left of at Orwell with another convincing victory at near neighbours Sawston Rovers Reserves.

After a goalless opening 30 minutes, Sawston thought they had taken the lead when keeper Alec Barnfarther palmed the ball against the cross bar, but fortunately for Crocus, the referee and linesman confirmed the ball did not cross the line.

With Rovers still disputing the incident, Crocus took the lead a minute later as a superb Daniel Rouse free-kick was planted into the top corner.

Crocus now playing well increased their lead with a well-taken goal from Trevor Jones beating several defenders in the box to confidently place the ball past the keeper.

The visitors gradually took control of the game, with another free-kick from Rouse in the 69th minute.

Sawston grabbed a consolation goal after Crocus had a brief lapse of concentration, but with Sawston on the attack late on in the game, Crocus sealed the victory with a perfect counter attack with Neil Brown cooling beating the keeper after a great run.

Crocus Res are home this Saturday against Great Shelford, 2pm kick-off.
