Aythorpe Roding Cricket Club put in an impressive performance to defeat Pegasus & Corringham on Saturday in the T Rippon Mid-Essex League Premier Division.

For the third week running, rain affected the match, but this time the game was reduced to 41 overs instead of 45 and the clash managed to be completed.

Roding captain Richard Dunmow was delighted with the victory.

"It was a good result and we got away with the weather," he said. "Andy Clarke bowled very well as did Terry Charrington at the other end.

"It was very comfortable victory and we bowled and fielded really well and I was pleased to skittle them out in 12 overs.

"It was a great team performance and we are getting good availability of players at the moment. Our nearest rivals in the league were all washed out on Saturday so it makes our win doubly good."

Aythorpe won the toss and decided to field first in ideal bowling conditions.

This proved a wise decision as Pegasus & Corringham were shot out after 24.2 overs, for 69 runs, with Gareth Jenkins top scoring for the hosts with 23.

Taking the wickets for Aythorpe was Clarke who took 6-38 in 123 overs, Charrington 3-25 in 12 overs and Neil Culleton 1-0 in two balls.

In the field, Graham Milbank made three catches, while Paul Gravatt took two catches in the outfield.

Aythorpe Roding took just 12 overs to reach their target of 70-3, with skipper Dunmow 36 not out and Milbank chipping in with 22.

Aythorpe travel to Bentley on Saturday, 1.30pm start.

Roding's 95 run victory in May is the hosts only defeat this year and Dunmow is looking to repeat that feat at the weekend.

"Their ground doesn't drain that well, so fingers crossed the rain holds off," he said.

"If you want to win the league you've got to beat the teams at the top. We will have a good side out and if we play to our potential we should do it."

Aythorpe Roding seconds' game against Woodford Wells at Cloghams on Saturday was cancelled due to the rain.

This weekend they entertain Bentley fourths, 1.30pm start.

Aythorpe Sunday side's game also fell foul of the weather.

On Sunday they host Capricort,

2pm start.
