NO CHANGE at the top of the Ridley League this week, but the North Section dogfight intensified, with the Retreat feeling the heat.
The leaders clung on to their unbeaten singles record, but lost overall to their nearest rivals as Rayne Cock took the women's and dominoes honours. The night's top shots both came in the mix, where Tony Hird's 180 was trumped by Retreat skipper Andy Camp's 133 shot out.
The gap at the top is now just two points, with Flitch Snooker A (9-6 winners at the Black Horse) and the Vine, who won by the same score at
the Black Lion, only a point or two
Remarkably, Flitch A's comprehensive singles success was their first of the season, leaving the Horse still to break their duck. But the home ladies won well, Val Mixture coming back from injury to hit the decisive double - and in the absence of the Flitch B-Chequers result, the Horse are temporarily out of
In the South Section, CCFC B's all-round strength marks them as the team to beat. The Swan's Fred Allen and Ian Middleton took the first dominoes game, but that was the visitors' lot. City's darters dropped only a handful of legs all night, and Andy Edgar and Barry Devenish maintained their unbeaten record as the Club's dommies dealers racked up another win.
CCFC A made it a City double, becoming the first side to lower the Cricketers' Mixed League colours and almost sweeping the board in the singles. The Cricketers girls won, however, to regain pole position in their league.
That result put CCFC A second in the table, with the result of the Black Bull's visit to the Bird in Hand still awaited.
