Registrations are now accepted for the 2014 Sawston Fun Run & Walk, one of the area's largest community-led charity events.

It attracts elite runners, regular or occasional joggers, and those wanting a run or walk with family and friends. To be held on Sunday (May 11) the major beneficiary will be the Arthur Rank Hospice, to help fund their new hospice at Shelford Bottom.

Others to benefit include the Granta Special Needs School at Linton, Centre33 in Cambridge, Eddie’s formerly Cambridgeshire Mencap and 10 other groups.

As well as the 7.5km course there will be an additional shorter route of 3.5km for walkers, small children and those wanting to accompany them.

Over 1,100 entrants are expected with hundreds watching, the race enjoys support from local businesses and volunteer groups making it a hugely popular event with the community. The result has been the raising of over £382,150 for charities and organisations and this year the organisers, the Rotary Club of Sawston District, aim to raise at least another £15,000.

Online registrations are accepted at or via a downloadable form. Registration forms are also available at branches of The Cambridge Building Society and Sawston Village College. There are categories by age and gender with entry fees before the day of £5 for entrants in school years 1-11 and £10 for adults of 17 years and over.
