Rayne CC are still searching for their first victory of the season after a defeat against Little Waltham at the weekend.

Rayne were restricted early on thanks to some tight bowling from Dave Parry who bowled five overs for seven runs. Rainbird and Cooper then started to up the tempo and had reached 60 in the 18th over when Cooper was bowled, and shortly after partner Rainbird was caught.

Graham Wickes and Paul Sheppard set about repairing the damage, but after two sixes Wickes was stumped by Newman. With 10 overs remaining the middle and lower order looked to get the ball away at every opportunity and with the runs came the regular fall of wickets, and they were finally dismissed for 189 in the last over.

In reply Thorogood was the main run scorer as he made 50 with 68 on the board supported by Newman.

Despite the good opening stand the Rayne bowlers plugged away and with some good fielding they kept to 76 from the first 20 overs.

Two more sharp chances went begging before Rayne finally held onto a catch as Collins snapped up Thorogood for 71. Graham Wickes was introduced to the attack and was rewarded for some tight bowling as Cooper took a catch as they lost their second wicket for 134.

However, Baxter came to the wicket and with a brisk 39 he helped ease his side to a comfortable victory.

Rayne host Chignal next week.
