Saffron Walden Cricket Academy held its annual presentation day on Sunday at the Anglo-American Playing Fields in the town.

A large crowd of parents and players heard reports on the many teams across the age groups who represent the 260 junior Academicians.

Several teams won county and district honours and these were presented along with individual presentations for outstanding performance.

Academician of the year went to Joe Barrs for his outstanding batting throughout the season, and also his leadership qualities and involvement with all aspects of Academy life.

Steve Larsen received bowler of the year with Peter Herd taking The Alfred Adams Trophy for batsmen of the year.

Academy staff member David Barrs said: "Peter scored two centuries in 24 over cricket this season - scoring one century in so few overs is a remarkable achievement - Peter did it twice!"

Sam Nash received a special award for being the regular first and second team scorer. He is up for a national Chance to Shine Award on October 19 at Lords.

In contrast with the appalling weather, which has so adversely affected the season, the sun shone all day, providing a fine backdrop to the annual parents versus Academy 20/20 match.

A spirited performance by the lads saw them beat their elders by 10 runs, bringing a challenging season to a satisfactory close.
