Takeley boss Marc Das turned his back on three of his sides four goals as they enjoyed a storming start to the Essex Senior League.

Three penalties have been scored by his table-topping side in a 2-0 away win at Hullbridge Sports on Saturday and in Tuesday’s 2-1 home triumph over London Bari.

The new man in charge has an unusual habit when his side earns a spot-kick.

He revealed to the Broadcast: “I turn around and look away, I’ve not been able to watch my players take penalties.

“I like to hear the roar of the fans and the people on the bench when they go in.

“I’ve never liked watching them as a manager.”

Charlie Cole, a signing from Thurrock, bagged both penalties at Hullbridge.

He missed the game with Bari, but his replacement Paul Tiffen netted the early opener.

Bari levelled at the start of the second half, before Mitchell Das converted a spot-kick to win the game 10 minutes from time.

Of the start Das said: “We’ve had a good strong start so we are very pleased with the boys.”

On Saturday, Takeley travel to Barking, who beat Redbridge 4-0 on Saturday, in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.

“They [Barking] had a good win on Saturday and scored a few goals,” said Das.

“We know they will be a contender this season, so it is a tough game, but we have a full squad to pick from and have started the season well.”
