Dunmow Cricket Club got back to winning ways on Saturday beating Kelvedon by 38 runs.

On what was a rain affected afternoon, the two captains agreed on a 40 overs a side match in which the Kelvedon captain won the toss and elected to field on a moist outfield.

Only two overs were possible before the first rain interruption, but when play resumed the sun came out and it was a pleasant afternoon.

Batting first Dunmow got off to a slow start and soon lost early wickets. C Barker, P M Reid and O Rooney all fell quickly as the Dunmow innings came to a halt at 46-3 off 15 overs.

A good partnership between N Down and L Swanston saw Dunmow along to 80-3 holding the innings together.

Swanston fell for 47, but Dunmow's tail took full advantage of the opportunity as J Rix (21 no) and P W Reid (16 no) scored quick runs late on to take Dunmow to a total of 154-9.

After tea Dunmow were straight on top of things as R Cross picked up an early wicket. Though Kelvedon continued to score at four an over and were 50-1 after 13 overs.

A great spell from Reid saw him pick up quick wickets as Kelvedon stumbled to 60-4. As the run rate increased so did Dunmow's confidence as wickets continued to

fall at regular intervals and the pressure built.

Kelvedon found themselves needing eight runs an over from the last seven and tight bowling and a couple of great catches saw P Reid finish with six wickets and Dunmow take their second win of the season.

Dunmow pay a visit to Mildenhall this Saturday.

Dunmow seconds are in real trouble after another defeat in the Herts and Essex League Division two, this time at Epping Foresters on Saturday.

In a rain affected game, eventually reduced to 35 overs a side due to two rain breaks in the first hour, Dunmow once again put themselves into a position to win the game and then conspired to lose it.

Skipper Matt Gibson won the toss deciding to bowl first and then led from the front taking 4-19. He received good support from Aussie Cameron Langford (2-34) in the process as Dunmow got on top with Epping Foresters struggling on 80-8.

However the ninth wicket partnership put on 70 as Dunmow let their advantage slip and Epping Foresters closed on 152-9.

As the wicket dried it became very difficult to bat on and this was compounded by excellent bowling from the Foresters bowlers which saw the first 18 overs yield only 35 runs for the loss of two wickets.

In reality, at no point did Dunmow look like getting close and wickets fell as increasingly desperate attempts were made to make a game of it.

Ultimately Dunmow closed on 84-9 to hand Epping Foresters a 68-run victory and leave Dunmow perilously close to the bottom of the table.
