Linton under 10s' impressive start to the season continued with their third straight league victory against a spirited Cokenach.

Batting first Linton found it hard to make progress, mixing run scoring with the regular fall of wickets.

However, in the seventh over the game turned when Noah Wright smashed 28 runs in three overs, including two sixes. A late flurry from Oliver Barnes scoring 11 saw Linton post a challenging total of 272.

In response, Cokenach struggled to make headway against controlled bowling, tenacious fielding and one superb stumping from Alex Starace.

Matthew Burleigh returned impressive figures of 0-5 from three overs and Noah Wright, who had an outstanding match, also took five wickets restricting Cokenach to 182.

Jack Fosberry took a hat-trick as Linton under 12s recorded their first win of the season at Fulbourn.

Tight bowling and fielding restricted the home team to 41-8 in their 20 overs, with Fosberry taking 4-4 and Michael Orriss 3-8.

Linton managed to reach the target with more than eight overs to spare, with Alex Harvey scoring nine and an unbeaten partnership between Daniel Pass and Joe Norton-Palmer taking them to victory.

Linton under 13s came out on top in a well contested match against Weston Colville.

Linton batted first and scored 113 against the most accurate bowling attack they have ever faced.

Auger continued where he left off last week and top scored with 37 and O'Callaghan backed him up with 24 well struck runs.

Linton's bowling and fielding was less impressive than in recent weeks, but fortunately Schumann-Pratt was in superb form behind the stumps and saved untold extras.

Bayley (16) and Young (35) for Weston Colville set about the target of 114 to win. However, Auger (3), Flynn (2) and Herbert (2), all took wickets and Colville fell 10 runs short of the 114 they required for victory in a tense finish.

Dunmow under 16s continued their winning streak beating Basildon & Pitsea by 76 runs.

Basildon won the toss and decided to bowl and after a good start, Dunmow lost a wicket bringing Will Green (82) to the crease.

Short bowling by the opposition let Oli Rooney and Will hit over 100 runs in 10 overs. Good batting by Tom Le Masurier (16) brought Dunmow to 246- 5 with Oli Rooney (104 no) scoring his second consecutive hundred.

Requiring six an over, Basildon had a good start, going at four an over with the first wicket falling in the 16th over.

Andy Ritchie (1-13), bowled tightly and Joe Hadfield (1-18), bowled with good pace as Dunmow took the victory.

Saffron Walden Academy's under 17s came out on top in a thrilling CYCA Transition League clash at home to Babraham.

Babraham won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 161-9 declared after only 36 overs.

At one stage Babraham had been reduced to 113-7 by some tidy bowling from Fraser Hill (2-24) and Alex Taylor (2-37), but a robust innings of 42 not out from T McNulty allowed them to recover.

As ever, Walden's fielding was led by keeper Colin Shepherd with two victims, supported by some excellent catches from Ben Nash, Joe Heath and Fraser Hill.

A modest start to the Walden innings was improved on by middle order contributions from Sam Shepherd (36), Tom Mockford (19) and Alex Taylor (17).

As Walden were moving towards their first defeat of the season, Peter Hill (26 no), snatched an unlikely victory from the jaws of defeat with one ball to spare by tactically using the four additional overs forfeited by Babraham in their declaration to take Walden's score to 164-8.

Saffron Walden under 16s secured a comfortable 87 run victory over Benfleet in the Essex Matchplay League.

Walden were put in to bat by Benfleet and openers Herd and Read scored steadily but slowly.

When both were out for 13 and 17 respectively, captain Joe Barrs came in but was quickly out for four runs. The rest of the middle order contributed a few runs each but no one was able to make a decent score and wickets fell steadily.

Theo Norris came to the wicket and began to lift the score. When he was out for 39, Darren White and Tom Ward batted out the 40 overs and Walden finished with a respectable score of 191.

Burton and Johnson were the best bowlers for Benfleet, taking three wickets apiece.

The home side began their reply slowly and were soon falling behind the required run rate because of excellent fast bowling from newcomer Harry Pickton-Turberville and Joe Barrs.

The first 10 overs yielded only 13 runs, with Harry getting one wicket. This set the pattern for the rest of the match with an array of Walden bowlers gradually stifling the Benfleet batsmen and picking wickets up steadily as the run rate grew.

Tom Ward took two wickets in four overs, and Ben Wyatt and Will Brown grabbed a wicket apiece.

Spinner Steve Larsen came on and was virtually unplayable, taking three wickets for eight runs in five overs, and the innings quickly subsided to 104 all out.

A young Saffron Walden under 15 side suffered a heavy 93 run defeat at Epping Foresters .

Having put their hosts in to bat, the charge of Walden's bowlers was held at bay by Jack Hazelton and an unstoppable Tom Spillman, who made 85 runs not out.

Walden's batsmen struggled to respond, but against a very strong Epping Foresters side did not manage to make an impact.

Dan Mitchell was the top scorer followed by an undefeated

James Ward.

Saffron Walden under 15s defeated Stansted Hall by 47 runs on Sunday.

The hosts were put into bat and Joe Heath set the scene with 42 runs with Jonny Hancock and Matt Bull following his leadership with 20 and 19 respectively.

The bowlers went to work, keeping everything tight. Patrick McGurk was the only threat, before being bowled by Hancock after 30 runs.

Bradley Plumb was the star of the day for the hosts, taking four wickets in four overs as Stansted Hall collapsed to 89 all out.

Saffron Walden under 11s put in an impressive performance defeating Babraham, by 121 runs in the CYCA League Division B.

Walden batting first put an almost unassailable target on the board, scoring 338-7.

Top scorers were Paddy Brown (20), Ed Low (19), Hamish Ritchie (15) and Nick Cox (14). They were well supported by the rest of the team with every batsman making a good score.

With the weather threatening, Ed Low captained his team from behind the stumps and set an attacking field challenging the Babraham batsmen to go for boundaries. Babraham responded but were tied down well by the home team.

Walden took nine wickets in total, the star performers being Robert Chappell with three wickets, Hamish Richie and Paddy Brown with two wickets each and Luke Diana with one wicket.

Will Clark and Jonathan Brace then put together a partnership of 19, with Will Clark scoring 12 off nine balls as Saffron Walden finished on 246-3.

The Stansted Hall opening pair made steady progress, however the Saffron Walden bowlers took regular wickets and excellent fielding kept the pressure on the batsmen.

Fine bowling performances by Luke Barkes (2-8), Will Clark (1-1) and John Griffin (1-4) meant that Stansted Hall were always behind the asking rate.

Then came an amazing late stint of bowling from Ryan Dewey which won the match for Walden.

Dewey bowled three overs, taking one wicket for three runs. The match went down to the final ball with six needed to win, but Tom Wass was cool and collective and bowled a dot ball winning the match.
