Newport Cricket Club are in urgent need of additional players ahead of the 2019 season.

One of the few remaining local village clubs in the area is looking to increase its playing strength in the Cambridge League, where the firsts play in Senior Division Two and the seconds in Junior Division Four.

From the mid-1990s until around 2013, the club also ran a successful youth side, before the team coach left and older players were integrated into senior sides.

Most of those players remain at the club, which would really like to relaunch a youth section and is looking for a new coach to help achieve that goal.

Newport CC is a social club, with a number of events held during the season in the lead-up to their dinner dance at Saffron Walden Golf Clubb in November, which has been a sell-out for over 100 members in the past two years.

First team captain Billy Powell is contactable on 07850 102479, while Iain Keys captains the seconds and can be called on 07595 022949.
