Cricket: Player focus

A NEPHEW of an ex-England captain has put in some hard work over the winter, and now it is starting to pay dividends.

Reece Hussain, aged 15, is the son of High Roding captain Mel Hussain and the nephew of Nasser Hussain, who captained his country for 45 test matches and turned the national side around in the late 90s early 2000s.

Young Hussain, a pupil of Brentwood School, shed the pounds and put on the muscle over the winter after undergoing a serious athletic training routine to get him fitter and faster. In the process lost one and a half stone.

Club spokesman Bob Potter said: “This has stood him in good stead and he has scored four centuries for High Roding colts in the Matchplay Competition, together with several high scores.

“He has also been playing for the senior second team and has carried on his good form to secure high scores in most of his innings this season.”

Reece is now being touted as a Rodings first team player and should make some inroads into county cricket.
