Saffron Walden Golf Club member Shaun Malone helped Cambridgeshire to glory in the prestigious Eastern Inter Counties Foursomes at the Seacroft Golf Club in Lincolnshire.
Cambridgeshire have only won it once before in 1986 since its inception in 1954 so to win it this year was a great achievement by the county team.
Cambridgeshire led from start to finish over the four rounds of foursomes with 14 points under their belt on Saturday and a further 11 points bagged on Sunday.
The winning total was 26 points leaving a comfortable victory margin of two points over second placed Leicestershire.
Out of a maximum total of eight points per pair over the two days, county captain Jody Greenall with Shaun Malone scored six as did Lee Yearn and Steve Jarvis.
This was, however, a fine team performance with all members in impressive form.
