There was a dream England U18 debut for Felsted School’s Max Malins as he scored a try in the 21-5 victory over France last Sunday.

The 18-year-old Year 13 student played a crucial role in the success against France in wet conditions at Castle Park in Doncaster.

Malins said: “It was a great honour to represent England for the first time against France, it was made even more exciting by scoring a try.

“It was a fantastic experience that I hope to have again.”

Malins was introduced in the second half with England 7-5 ahead.

He jumped onto a loose French pass to run in and score unopposed as England then pushed on to a convincing victory.

The teenager could now feature against Scotland and then in the FIRA Tournament in France over Easter.

Malins is making great strides in club rugby too and has been offered a contract with Saracens Academy following his successful captaincy of their Elite Academy U18s squad.

This included the recent win at the Academy League finals, 23-19, over the title holders Northampton Saints, with three other Felsted boys in the team; Alexander Gilham, James Lennon and Harrison King.

In 2014 Malins represented Saracens in the Premiership Sevens, World Club Sevens in Ireland and played for Saracens Senior Academy against their sister Club RCM Timisoara in Bucharest, Romania.

He has steadily climbed the ranks since representing Felsted School rugby 1st XV in Year 11 and played for Felsted in the showpiece Daily Mail Vase Final at Twickenham in 2012, alongside his brother Will.

Director of Felsted Rugby and ex-rugby professional rugby player Andrew Le Chevalier added: “We are delighted for Max.

“His performances for Felsted have been inspirational and he leads from the front as the captain of the first XV.

“I strongly believe that Max has the potential to reach a very high level in rugby.”
