Great Dunmow’s Alfie Madigan won a bronze medal at the Wadokai All Nations Championships recently.
The 14-year-old Forest Hall School pupil is part of the CHKA club based in Flitch Green and represented England in the male cadet under-52kg category.
It was a tough competition with fighters from all over the world taking part, but Madigan beat Scottish and Romanian rivals, before losing to a Canadian.
He bounced back to beat a competitor from Belgium to claim bronze and is now training hard ahead of another outing for England in November, when Madigan – who is coached by Claire Kemp – will travel to Ireland to compete in the Wadokai European Championships.
