DUNMOW-BASED racer Alex Lynn arrives at the home of British motorsport this week as he takes to the famous Silverstone track in the penultimate weekend of the British Formula 3 Championship.

The 18-year-old, who was crowned Formula Renault 2.0 UK Champion at Silverstone last year, has high hopes of another strong weekend after enjoying an impressive maiden season in British F3.

But despite being a podium regular and a consistent points scorer the Fortec man, who lies fifth in the championship standings, is the only top-six driver without a win this season – a stat he is looking to change this weekend.

Looking ahead to Silverstone, Lynn said: “I’m fairly relaxed about the weekend, to be honest – I’m just going to drive all the corners as quickly as I can and hope I can be up there, really. Silverstone is a good track,

“I enjoy racing there but I don’t expect to be any stronger there than anywhere else – I’ve been quite quick everywhere, which is obviously encouraging moving forwards.

“If it’s dry, it will make things easier, but everyone’s in the same boat in terms of the conditions so I don’t expect the weather to be a help or a hindrance this weekend.”

In a remarkably close season, which has seen the championship leader change no fewer than 11 times in 22 races, Lynn has recorded six podium finishes and amassed a total of 186 points.

He now trails Carlin’s Carlos Sainz Junior by just 11 points with six races of the season remaining.

Last time out at a soaking Snetterton circuit, Lynn maintained the consistency which has shaped his season after notching a top-five hat-trick in treacherous conditions at the Norfolk venue.

With the sun set to shine throughout the Silverstone weekend, Lynn will be hoping for an altogether more straightforward event at the Northamptonshire circuit as he returns to the cockpit after a month-long summer break.

With just two weekends of the 2012 season remaining, Lynn declared himself happy with his performance so far this year: “As rookie years go, it certainly hasn’t been a bad year; of course, I would have liked more, but I can’t rush anything and I have age on my side.

“I’ll be looking to complete another year in F3 next year and I’ll be learning and developing as much as I can.”
