Dunmow Rhodes under eight Lions finished runners-up in a hard fought five-a-side tournament at Tiptree on Sunday.

Rhodes finished top of their group with a 0-0 draw against Coggeshall and a 2-0 victory over Mayland Village, with Carey and Wise both getting on the score sheet. A 1-1 draw with Tiptree C with a Jacobs goal, was followed by a 2-1 victory over Tiptree A with goals from Jacobs and Wise booking Rhodes a semi-final spot.

In a tense clash in which both sides came close to breaking the deadlock, a great goal from captain Thompson was enough to defeat Vipers Youth and set up a final encounter with Bergholt A.

The final started with Wise unable to play through injury and a few minutes into the match, Gallop also had to be replaced.

Dunmow's play was disjointed and it wasn't long before they were caught napping, with the Bergholt striker firing in two goals in two minutes to give his side the victory and the trophy, with Rhodes having to settle for a creditable second place out of 15 teams to enter the competition.
