Saffron Walden Town Ladies 3 Garston 2

On the day when Saffron Walden Town Mayor Sarfraz Anjum visited Catons Lane to mark the 10th anniversary of the club, the ladies provided more reasons for celebrations as they booked their place in the next qualifying round of the Women's FA Cup.

Garston started brightly and took an early lead through a great strike from the edge of the box.

The resilient Walden team thought they had levelled minutes later, but Andi Wright's strike was disallowed for offside.

However they did find the breakthrough after an intricate move involving Amie Jones and Wright ended with Amanda Potter slotting the ball home at the near post.

Walden took the lead just before half time as Jones chased down a pass and beat the keeper.

Garston started the second half well, but Walden were equal to the challenge and went further ahead after 70 minutes through Sharon Harrison's powerful header.

The visitors never gave up and pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after Karli Hammond was adjudged to have handled in the area.

Garston continued to pressure the Walden goal, but the home side held firm to book their place in the next round.
