Cornard Ladies 0Saffron Walden Town Ladies 5AFTER two months without a game, Walden were straining at the leash. And this showed as they dominated the match. Good passing from all areas led to a host of chances, with Kim Jeffries, Rhiannon Parry and Amanda Potter going close in the first half.On the rare occasions the Walden defence was called into action, they dealt with the threat superbly, making sure the ball was knocked back up to the strikers. Only a couple of free-kicks, which were superbly saved by in-form keeper Eleanor Kingsly, troubled the Walden goal. After the break, on the right hand side, Hayley Cordall and Amanda Potter were carving out good chances, likewise Kim Jeffries and Stacey Chaplin on the left. However, they has to wait until a Lizzie Bellinger through ball saw former Cornard player Sharon Groome open the scoring, with a good pass round the keeper. Rhiannon Parry added a second shortly after with a cheeky tap-in.Walden wanted more goals and shots from Vicky McCaffrey and Jeffries were saved before Amanda Potter pounced on to a cross to score Walden's third. Cornard could not get hold of the ball and Walden were ferociously pounding on their defence line. Jeffries managed to score after latching onto a perfect through ball from Hayley Cordall. Potter finished the scoring with a well-placed screamer. Vicky Smith and Frankie Smith continued to hold the back line in place and showed why they are one of the best centre-half pairings in the league. n Saffron Walden train on Tuesday nights, 8.30-10pm, at Newport Free Grammar School.
