With a cancellation of the first league fixture of the new season Saffron Walden Hockey Club Ladies Seconds accepted an invitation to play a friendly match against an experienced Shefford team.
Walden started the match strongly and runs down both wings by Sophie Thomas and Kate O'Sullivan rocked Sandy, but the visitors were unable to convert the early pressure into goalmouth chances.
As Sandy eventually adapted to the pace of the game the Walden defensive quartet of Claire Pearce, Lindsay Wilson, Lorna Charge and Georgina Deary were at full stretch to protect keeper Fiona Holmes.
From a long ball through Sandy eventually broke the deadlock with a well taken strike.
After the break Walden dominated the first 15 minutes with Marlie Buckridge, Zoe Bull and Sophie Fry all making surging runs and forcing several short corners.
