Dunmow Kyokushinkai Karate Club took 13 members to compete in an inter-club Kyokushinkai Karate Tournament in Crawley, Sussex.

In addition to Dunmow, students competed from a number of clubs from around the country including Crawley, Burwell, West Hill, Verwood, Eastbourne and Dunmow’s sister club, Saffron Walden, to name a few.

All students fought hard at the tournament which led to some excellent results.

Two pupils from Helena Romanes School, Kayleigh Morris (age 14) and Georgia Slocombe (age 13), made it through to the final in the junior (U16s) high grades category with Kayleigh taking first place.

Kaan Yildirim from Saffron Walden Kyokushinkai Karate Club came joint third in this category.

In the cadets (over 16s) category, Arin Yildirim from Saffron Walden came first with another HRS pupil, Isobel Benjamin (age 16), coming third.

In the Pee Wees category (U10s), Fin Clements (age nine) came second with Chloe Slocombe (age nine) and Luca Magyar (age nine) came joint third.

Additionally in the team event Dunmow’s Pee Wee team, consisting of Chloe Slocombe, Fin Clements, Luca Magyar and Francis Pettit, came third.

Finally, Riley Sweet (age seven) came second in a mixed team in the mini pee wee category (six-seven -year-olds).
