DUNMOW’S Chloe Rogers will be fighting with her England team mates as they seek to finish in fifth spot following a disappointing tournament.
Rogers started and made big contributions in all three matches for her country so far, but they lost one-nil to Argentina in their opening game before drawing 2-2 and nil-nil with South Korea and China respectively.
Having failed to qualify for the last four, England now face a play-off for places five to eight.
After the China match on Monday, England head coach Danny Kerry said: “We had lots of pressure at the end of the match but we couldn’t convert that into a penalty corner or a clear opportunity.
“We worked hard but with the running we did and the openness of the game fatigue crept in towards the end.”
In order to become one of the top four teams on goal difference England, who won the bronze medal last year and wanted to do even better this time around, needed group leaders Argentina to beat South Korea by two goals but that match was drawn 1-1.
Instead the team, with most of the GB Olympic 2012 squad named, will play Germany on Thursday and Australia on Friday as they seek to finish in fifth spot.
