High Roding cricket celebrate at awards night

HIGH RODING Cricket Club held their annual dinner and dance at The Hilton Hotel, Stansted, on Saturday November 13.
There was much cause for celebration as the first eleven were crowned as the T Rippon Premier League Champions following on from a successful Indoor Cricket season, and the second eleven managed to stave off relegation at the eleventh hour with a win on the last day of the Season.
Baz Sewell after being promoted from the seconds won the bowling averages, and Mel Hussain, brother of England ex-international Nasser, was once again at the head of the batting averages.
The champagne moment was won by Adam Holdgate with his 178 against Molehill Green scored in 20 overs, and there was an award won by Jordan Baker for being The Herts and Essex Division two under 18 player of the year.
The most improved player award was won by young Sam South, and the teams players player of the year were won by first team: Craig Miller, second team: Jordan Baker and the third team again by Sam South.
The Clubman of the year award was won by Colin Gurnett for his unstinting work at The Meadow this Summer.
Club spokesman Bob Potter said: “Every week Colin could be found filling in rabbit holes on the pitch, making the tea, working behind the bar and every other job that needed doing. Well done to him it was a well deserved award”.
