Peter Herd hit an amazing 101 off just 14 overs as Saffron Walden Academy under 13s defeated Abington by 114 runs.

Herd was well suppported by Billy Diggons and they put on an impressive partnership of 145, as the Abington bowlers struggled with Herd smashing consecutive boundaries in most overs.

Herd was finally out on 101, being stumped trying to hit the ball for another six. Diggons followed soon after getting out in the same fashion for 33.

Jack Hawkins came in to bat and hit a quick-fire 25, as Walden ended their innings on 198-3 after 20 overs.

Abington's batsmen were limited from great bowling by Clayton Bull, who bowled well and was unlucky not to get a wicket. Steve Wiseman and Ryan Dewey both took two wickets apiece and Abington were finally all out for 84, giving Walden a deserved victory.

Saffron Walden Academy under 14s made it four wins out of five this season with a comfortable victory at Babraham.

After being inserted by the hosts, Joe Heath and Chester Hawkins made light of the early loss of Kieran Greig by adding 77 for the second wicket in 13 overs.

Hawkins fell for 23, but Heath carried his bat for 52, enabling a total of 112-2 to be posted.

The unavailability of a couple of regular players allowed others to play a fuller role, notably Joel Hyett who conceded only five runs off his three overs and debutante Simon Rayson who bowled a promising spell of three overs.

Ollie Millichap gamely volunteered to don the keeper's gloves and made a spirited contribution, including some light hearted sledging of his Shelford rugby colleague, Ollie Martin.

Some tight and consistent bowling from Greig (3-0-6-0), Hawkins (3-0-7-1), Heath (3-2-2-2) and Jordan Minet (2-1-3-1), pegged back the Babraham reply right from the start.

At the halfway stage they had reached 21-3, eventually finishing up with 65-5, thanks to a few lusty hits from Alex Pett who scored a quick fire 21.

Alex Willard wrapped things up for Walden taking the final wicket off the last ball.

Thaxted under 15s took the bragging rights in their local derby with Dunmow, with a comfortable victory.

Tight bowling and good fielding put Dunmow in trouble from the outset.

Luke Matthews was the star of the show, taking two wickets for three runs off three overs, including two maidens, while Jacob Noble also bowled well.

Tight fielding from Thaxted led to four run outs for Dunmow.

Thaxted eased home in reply with the loss of only four wickets.

Luke Matthews retired on 30, Andy Yeldham scored 17 and his brother Alex scored 15, as Thaxted secured a thoroughly deserved victory.
