Cathy Gunn led a victorious team of three in Sunday's Saffron Striders' inter-club relay.

Supported by Paul Burgess and Steve White, Gunn's team proved their talent at map reading and trail running to finish ahead of the five other teams.

Several Saffron Striders also participated in the Thaxted Trail Race. This was a seven mile route which the runners had to navigate themselves using a sheet of written directions. Paul Burgess excels at this type of event and his time of 49min was 15-20min ahead of Gavin Long, Paul Waters, Danny Collins, John James and Margit Wendelberger-James.

The £4 entry fee included a £2 drinks voucher and John Howe certainly got his money's worth as a missed footbridge sent him deep into the Essex countryside which extended his route by an additional four miles. Saffron Striders' most prolific racer finally reached the pub at the finish line after 1hr and 43min.

These friendly, informal evening runs are just one of the many events that Saffron Striders participate in. Further information is available from the club's website www.saffronstriders.org.uk

August will see Striders in action in local races (Newmarket 5K, Harlow 10 mile) and in races further afield (Belper 30K in Derbyshire, Milland Valley Half Marathon in Hampshire).

Entries are now being accepted for the Saffron Walden 10K which takes place on Sunday September 30.
