Saffron Walden Ladies put in a great performance to defeat Cambridge City at the weekend.

Walden managed an early goal from Charlotte Wisbey, but were unable to capitalise on their strength until the dying minutes of the first half with a rebound shot from Natalie Chandler, and a flick over the keeper's feet from Annie Withington.

Leading 3-1 in the second half, Walden continued to dominate play and two more goals came from the well-practiced short-corner routine with hard accurate shots from Gabby Byland.

Withington scored her second and Walden's sixth from open play, Maria Lamb's run down the right wing culminating with a cross to Tilly Sleven waiting to slip the ball past the keeper for Walden's seventh goal.

Kate O'Sullivan who worked tirelessly showing her speed and skill on the left, fed the ball into the D for Gabby Byland to score her third goal and Tilly Sleven finished off the goal scoring with number nine from a rebound off the keeper's pads.

- Saffron Walden men's first team drew 2-2 at home to Shefford & Sandy on Saturday, the seconds beat Colchester seconds 6-2 and the thirds drew 3-3 with Colchester thirds.
