New captains started their year of office at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club with a traditional drive-in in front of packed galleries.
The club, which boasts members from Dunmow and the surrounding areas, saw new lady captain Rowena Haslam kick-off events last Friday.
Watched by husband Colin, their two sons and massed members of the club, Haslam stylishly dispatched her first shot as captain down the first fairway.
After a quick photo-call it was back into the clubhouse for a warming lunch.
Sunday saw the turn of new club captain Peter Self and junior captain Jon Hopkins.
After the gloom of the previous week’s weather, the golfing gods smiled on their big day with blue skies and bright sunshine.
Two-handicapper Hopkins, a pupil at Hockerill School in Stortford, has been a club member for eight years and has already won several senior competitions there including the 2015 blue ribband Captain’s Day trophy.
Hopkins has also won junior tournaments around the south-east and plays regularly for the county.
He was on top form for his drive-in, hitting his opening shot a massive 255 yards.
In-coming club captain Self, who hails from Chelmsford and came to Stortford in 1990 and is now retired, has been a golf club member for 20 years, he plays from a 21 handicap and impressed the crowds massed around the first tee with a drive of 193 yards straight down the middle.
The new captains will lead the golfing and charity fund-raising activities at the club throughout their year of office.
They are all looking forward to good weather over the coming months to get events off to a flying start.
