BARNSTON AFC has appointed a gold medal winning athlete as the club’s new physio.

Manager Leighton Williams announced the latest addition of Lloyd Upsell to the Essex and Suffolk Border League yesterday (Feb 1) via his twitter account saying: “Delighted that we have been able to confirm the appointment of a new club physio.”

Upsdell, who won gold medals in the 100 and 200 metre sprints at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, will be with the first team on match days, and will also be at training.

In a statement later released by the club, Williams said: “Lloyd has previously been involved in a similar role with Essex Senior League club Witham Town under previous manager Danny Greaves. Along with the experience of being a football club physio, Lloyd also has qualifications in massage so will be able to offer pre and post match muscle massages to our players.”
