Dunmow Rhodes Tigers U12s won the Blackwater and Dengie Division One League Cup with a 1-0 final victory over Great Notley Falcons at Witham Town FC.

On a difficult pitch Dunmow Rhodes started strongly immediately getting into their passing game.

The midfield of Sam Purcell, Josh Boreham, Alfie Bowen and Ben Roberts moved the ball quickly and ensured Rhodes created some good chances.

Miles Thorpe worked extremely hard upfront pressing the defence of Great Notley to ensure they had no time on the ball.

Rhodes had a number of corners with Ryan Clancy going closest with a header just going pass the post.

Thorpe and Roberts were a handful going forward and it was a free-kick from Roberts that saw the Great Notley keeper make a fantastic save.

With a change of personnel in midfield, Purcell then went close with a strike from the edge of the box.

The second half saw Great Notley start strongly from the whistle, and it was the turn of the Dunmow midfield and defence to dig in and battle hard.

The midfield of Scott Williamson, Lewis Farmer, Joe Sutton and Josh Valks worked hard to ensure Great Notley had little time on the ball.

However, it was the Dunmow Rhodes defence of Louis Leaning, James Claydon and Ryan Clancy who were magnificent in the second half.

They defended the edge of the box with fantastic strength and composure.

When Great Notley did get through they found goalkeeper Alex Benjamin in brilliant form.

With the scores level, and with three minutes to go, Rhodes broke quickly down the right with Valks moving the ball upfront to Roberts.

Roberts’ fantastic run and skill created an opening to deliver a pin-point cross into the box, where Farmer buried the ball with a firm header into the corner of the net.

The boys worked hard to the final whistle to ensure they brought the Cup back to Dunmow.
