Takeley claimed their 21st Essex Senior League victory of the season by beating Enfield 1893 6-1 on Saturday.

Top scorer Charlie Cole hit another four goals taking his season’s tally to a superb 48, while Jason Todd and Reece Barrett were also on target for the side fourth in the league.

Of his, and the division’s top scorer, Takeley boss Marc Das told the Broadcast: “He has done very well.

“On Saturday he was back to his old self with the way he finished his goals.

“It wasn’t just him though, his team-mates that made the goals for him played well.

“Some of the goals and the quality of them was exceptional.

“One of them started at the back and went though Andy Bartram in midfield to Mitchell [Das]. He drew the two centre halves before finding Charlie who chipped the keeper; they made it look so easy.

“It had me running up and down the sideline it was so well executed.

“Jason Todd got another on Saturday, he has been outstanding in midfield this season, we also had two 18-year-olds in Freddie Burrell and Frankie Oatham on the field at the same time at one point.

“It was a nice feeling to see us score as many goals as we know we can.

“It was disappointing to concede the one goal late in the game, but you can’t have everything.”

Takeley travel to the Mile End Stadium this Saturday to face fourth from bottom Sporting Bengal United who are unbeaten in their last four league games.

Das said: ”Now we look forward to Sporting Bengal, despite where they are in the league table they have had some good results of late so you can’t take anything for granted.”

Following that clash Takeley host Ilford on Tuesday night at Station Road in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy quarter-final, with the winners set to meet Eton Manor in the last four.

“We will be looking for a good performance [Saturday], but will have to be a bit clever with a few players who have knocks as we then have the cup quarter-final,” he added.

“Ilford are a strong tall side and the guys have something to prove as we have not beaten them this season, but we have to get Saturday out of the way first.”
