Youth football round up
Dunmow United Pythons 3 Springfield Youth 1
A FANTASTIC goal from Harry Roberts capped an excellent performance as Dunmow eased past Springfield.
Both teams enjoyed the return to playing football after the recent bad weather, but there was a sluggish start to the game.
After a number of chances Dunmow took the lead just before half time with a side-foot finish by Harry Simmonds from Will Hammill’s pass.
Springfield scored a deserved equaliser just after half time. Dunmow pressed forward and soon afterwards took the lead after an own goal.
And, after continued pressure Roberts scored a third goal with a powerful shot from the right wing.
Maldon & Tiptree Panthers 8 Dunmow Rhodes Lions 3
PANTHERS took the lions’ share of the spoils in an entertaining on Sunday.
Both teams were glad to get a game under their belts and, with players missing, both fielded 10 men.
Rhodes had the best of the opening exchanges and Oscar Turner hit a post, before Maldon opened the scoring.
The game continued with end to end play, but Maldon scored another two to go in 3-0 up at the break.
Sam Hockley pulled one back with a solo effort when he ran past three defenders and his shot beat the Maldon keeper, and Sam Duberry then hit a post.
Maldon hit back with another two goals before Duberry scored a second for Rhodes, firing in an excellent shot after good build up play.
Hockley continued to torment the Maldon defence and was fouled in the penalty area. Turner fired home to make it 5-3.
Maldon fired in three quick goals, all from quick breakaways, to round off the victory.
